Spirit – Immortality of the soul – Who are we?

It is back to school, and let’s talk about our souls.

TOPIC

Immortality of the Soul. What happens when you “die”?

OBJECTIVE

After this lesson, children will know our souls do not die, our bodies do.

OPENING:

Play trainwreck and share what you did during summer. Or something about you if it is a new group

LAUNCH LESSON:

Did you hear the news about Queen Elizabeth II? *This was a recent event that happened before this lesson. Pick another example or just ask about loved ones that passed away. Other alternative is to play the movie clip of “SOUL” listed at the end of this lesson plan.

What do you think happens when we die? Do we keep our titles? Our social status?
Do you think she will continue to be a queen and have all her jewelry, luxury, and crown with her?
We do keep all knowledge and moral values we learned during our lives. Looking at the respect and reverence all people of the world are paying her, it seems she kept her promise of giving the people her heart! Don’t you think?

EXPLORE LESSON:

STORY: A SPECIAL GUEST AT LIVIA’s PARTY

Read the story and role-play the story

Suggestion: print posters and change the “background” of the story as kids role play it

DISCUSSION/QUESTIONS:

  1. Do our spirits die? Do our bodies die?
  2. Where do we go when we die?
  3. How did Livia find out her grandpa was at the party?
  4. Can we talk to “free” spirits?
  5. Do you believe we can meet spirits in a dream?

CONCLUSION:

Remember what Jesus taught us, and we celebrate every Easter:

Death of the body is not an end. It is just the beginning of a new chapter

Next week we will learn about: The Spiritual World

If there is still time:
Play this song that talks about grief but with hope.
With Hope by Steven Curtis Chapman

CLOSING PRAYER:

A child can pray by heart or have a prayer card for him or her to read

OTHER ACITVITIES:
Play movie clip of the MOVIE SOUL
