Educator: Life after life. There is no scientific proof that life continues after the body’s life ceases. But most people believe we travel to a different conscious state after our bodies expire here on earth.

Science is talking about near-death experiences and the content of those who experienced it consistently includes memories of one’s life “flashing before the eyes,” and also the sensation of leaving the body, often seeing one’s own face and body, blissfully traveling through a tunnel toward a light and feel “at one” with something universal. But despite our faith, the afterlife can’t be proven yet.

Instead, Jesus asks us simply to use our reason and reflect on our spirit, our relationships, our existence. Does it make sense if we die with our bodies? Is that fair?

In small groups, have this discussion:

  1. AROUND THE CIRCLE: Before we get going, everybody says their name and share one thing you liked or disliked in the movie clips
  2. ASK A FEW: Why do you suppose some people don’t believe there’s an afterlife? ( Educator: Maybe someone will mention there isn’t a scientific proof of it. Can science proof everything or it is always evolving?)
  3. ASK A FEW: Is there someone in your life who has died that you hope to “see again”? If so, who?
  4. ASK A FEW: What would you say to them? (Educator: Isn’t it comforting to know we will see our loved ones again? The tricky part is, we will see everyone…. the ones we love and the ones we have challenges)
  5. ASK A FEW: Do you believe Heaven is a real place? Why or why not? Do you believe Hell is a real place? Does everyone who dies become “angels”? (Educator: Explain the spiritual life is a continuation of material life, there are good and ignorant people, good and bad places and in-between. It depends on where our mind and awareness is. The astral city trailer says Earth is an “imperfect copy” of the spiritual world and there we can understand better since we have more awareness.)
  6. ASK A FEW: Is the place in the movie “Astral City” heaven?

CLOSURE

Explain that we are having a “physical” experience, one existence, but our true nature is spiritual and our true life is in the spiritual world.

But more importantly, what does the awareness of eternal life brings us? What are we taking with us to the spiritual realm? Who are we going to meet? Where are we going and why should we prepare for it?

Just a quick reminder: Only the body dies, the perispirit and spirit do not perish. Correct?

We will have many other existences in different bodies…. but that is the subject of our next class.
